SCHOOL-WIDE INFORMATION FOR THIS WEEK

Hello Families,
I hope you all have had a chance to enjoy mid-winter break, taking some time to relax and spend time with family. I am looking forward to seeing those smiling faces again on Monday. As a reminder, we will be celebrating our students' iReady achievement with an "Extra Fun" Recess on Wednesday, February 26th. Classes will have their class pictures taken on February 27th. We will also be honoring Black History Month in our school assembly, recognizing young Black change makers and how no voice is to small to make a difference.

As we prepare to return to school on Monday, February 25th, I wanted to share with you some important information. Our assistant principal, Mrs. Crane, will be taking a short leave to attend to her health. In her absence we are fortunate to have Meghan Griffen, an administrator in the district, supporting us at Fernwood. Please see below for a message from both Meghan Crane and Meghan Griffin.

Note: From Meghan Crane
Dear Fernwood Families,

I am writing to share that I am having a medical procedure that will require me to take some time to recover before returning in person to Fernwood. I am okay and it is nothing too serious and am looking forward to being back with our Panthers in a few weeks.

While I am recovering, Meghan Griffin will be covering for me at Fernwood to ensure our Panthers continue to have support with being safe, kind, learners. I know she will experience a warm welcome here at Fernwood during her time supporting and I have no doubt she will instantly fall in love with our amazing students!

Our Panthers bring me tremendous joy daily and I will miss our students’ smiling faces while I am out! My return date is set for March 17th barring any unforeseen hiccups in recovery. I am looking forward to being back with the Fernwood family and picking up where I left off.

In partnership,

Meghan Crane

Assistant Principal

Note: From Meghan Griffin

I am very excited to have the opportunity to support the Fernwood community during this time.  I started my career in education as a para-educator for two years and then a middle school mathematics teacher for five years in the Lake Washington School District.  I was an assistant principal at Seattle Public Schools for 11 years (3 at the middle school level and eight at the high school level.  I joined the Northshore School District in 2019 as an elementary principal for four years and have been working at the district office for the last two years.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our three children (Cooper - 12, Lauren - 10, and Olivia - 7).  We love playing sports, being outside, and going on nature walks as a family.

I look forward to meeting you and supporting the Fernwood community.  Go Panthers!

Meghan Griffin
