Screening for Northshore’s Highly Capable Program
Various testing will occur over the month of December to support screening for the Northshore’s Highly Capable Program. All testing is organized and supported through Northshore’s Highly Capable Department and their trained proctors. Details and times are listed below based on the grade level of the student:

First Grade - ALL students were screened on the NNAT3 in October. Parents were notified through the Highly Capable Department if their child was eligible to participate in the IOWA screener. If parents provided permission, students will test on:

Wednesday, December 6th at 9:30 for the math test.

Second, Third, and Fourth Grade - Students ONLY took the NNAT3 in October IF REFERRED by parents or if they met the criteria for screening. Parents were notified through the Highly Capable Department if their child was eligible to participate in the IOWA screener. If parents provided permission, students will test on:

Tuesday, December 5th at 1:30pm for math

Thursday,December 7th at 1:30pm for reading

* Please note, if a student has a highly capable designation in math OR reading, but not in both, they will automatically take the IOWA test in the area in which they have NOT yet qualified if permission has been provided.

Student Council Holiday Dessert Drive
For families needing support with groceries, finding the resources to purchase special treats to make with their loved ones, may not be high on their list of priorities. The Fernwood Student Council is hoping to create an opportunity for these families to come together to make a special dessert for their holiday tables. Join us in making this a reality by donating to our Holiday Dessert Drive.

The drive will run from December 6th through December 14th. Donation bins will be set up by the office doors. Please consider the list below for ideas on items to donate. All donations will benefit local food banks.

Unwrap the Joy: Holiday Gift Card Drive!
SHARE THE JOY! SPREAD THE LOVE! THE ANNUAL GIFT CARD DRIVE IS IN FULL SWING!
This holiday season, the Fernwood PTSA is collecting $25 gift cards to provide to families in need in our community. Please consider donating one or more $25 physical gift cards (or eGift Cards) from Target or Fred Meyer. The last day to donate is Friday, December 8th.
Ways to donate:
1. Purchase a $25 electronic gift card to either Target or Fred Meyer.

2023-2024 After School Enrichment Programs
Fernwood PTSA would like to begin the After School Enrichment Program is in January. We would like to find out information on the type of classes students would be interested in, and if you are willing to be a volunteer in a class. Visit the link to the PTSA Website here to learn more.
Fernwood Dines Out!
After the success of our MOD Pizza Fundraising earlier this year, the fundraising team is proud to offer our latest event Fernwood Dines Out! On the 1st WEDNESDAY of EACH MONTH we will be working with a local restaurant to help raise money for Fernwood! So mark your calendars, and get ready to enjoy some great food and a night of not having to worry about what's for dinner!

Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink
The Fundraising team is happy to announce that we are once again partnering with The Bellevue Downtown Association and the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink for the 2023-24 season! Ice skating opened to the public on Friday, November 17 and closes on Sunday, January 15. Simply mention Fernwood Elementary when you purchase your tickets and $3 from each ticket will be donated back to the school. We look forward to seeing you at the Bellevue Downtown Ice Rink!
Spelling Bee
Thank you to those who have registered for The Fernwood Spelling Bee 2023-24. All the registered students would have received the word list for this year's Spelling Bee. The first round is an online qualifying round where registered students are required to participate in the online testing. The Spelling Bee team will determine the qualifying students based on their scores. Those who qualified will be allowed to participate in the in-person written Spelling Bee. The second round qualifying students will be competing in the final round grade wise and then with all the finalists from all the grades. The final round will be a
school-wide competition.
Dates for this Week:
Round 1: Dec. 8th - Dec. 10th, 2023 - Qualifying online-test for all the registered students grade wise. It includes words from the study list provided grade wise.
